Tom Ogburn became Senior Pastor for Westwood Baptist Church on September 30, 2018. Before coming to Westwood Tom served as pastor for congregations in Knoxville, Tennessee and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Tom also spent a decade as a missionary and as a part of the missions staff for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Tom is a graduate of Campbell University (B.S.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University (D.Min.). Tom shares a history with Westwood, serving as its church planter and first pastor, however he is more excited about the future he and the church have together in ministry.
Tom has been married to Beth for over 30 years and remains thrilled that she said “yes” those many years ago. They are grateful for their family. They have a son, Aaron. He and his wife, Grace, serve as missionaries with Pioneer Bible Translators. They also have a daughter, Elizabeth, who along with her husband, Jackson Henry, live and work in Texas. Beth is an ordained minister and works as a Lifestyle Coordinator for Elite Management Company.
Tom is trying to grow his skills in the kitchen and has discovered a love for fly-fishing. He has a passion for books and a love for history. He also has a ridiculously large collection of elephants from across the globe. Tom and Beth enjoy spending time with people, hearing their life story.
Associate Pastor for Adult Discipleship and Facilities
Keith Vaughn joined the Westwood family as Associate Pastor in June of 2009. He now serves as Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship and Facilities since 2019.
Keith grew up in Central Florida, but he and his wife Teresa have lived in North Carolina since 1991 where he has served four churches including Westwood. He and Teresa have been married for over 30 years and have two adult sons, Nicholas and Joshua.
Nic works for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in Parking and Transportation Services and he serves in the North Carolina National Guard. Nic and his wife, Bethany, were married in 2019. Josh is a junior majoring in business management at UNCC.
Keith has degrees from Stetson University (BA), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Campbell University Divinity School (D.Min.). He has a passion for congregational teaching and training, and his mission is to assist and nurture Westwood’s members to become disciples who make disciples. He also ensures the facility is a great place for worship, fellowship, discipleship, and community gatherings.
Keith loves reading books for relaxation and for his field of work at Westwood. He collects Batman memorabilia, loves watching movies and old cartoons, is an avid Andy Griffith Show fanatic, and follows his beloved Florida State Seminoles in all sports.
Interim Minister of Music
Larry Ballard is our Interim Minister of Music. He grew up in Nashville, TN. His academic work is from Carson-Newman College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Most of Larry’s career has been in local church music ministry, where he has served as an Associate Pastor, Music and Worship. He is also associated with Celebrating Grace Music and Worship Resources. He has two children: Rachel and Jim, and two grandchildren: Savannah and Jase. He and his wife Jan attend Hayes Barton Baptist Church.
Associate Pastor for Family Ministries
Westwood is preparing to initiate a search committee to find the right person for this position. We have a transition plan in place to cover all of the functions of this minister until we are able to call a new minister for this role.
Interim Children’s Ministry Coordinator
Amanda Allard is a senior at Campbell University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Christian Studies as well as an interest in pursuing her Masters of Divinity at Campbell University.
She has been a part of Westwood Baptist Church her entire life, being an active member in the youth group and missions. Amanda has always been actively involved in the Children’s ministry since high school. She joined our staff as a Ministry Intern with a focus on children in June 2019, and began serving as the Interim Children’s Ministry Coordinator on April 1, 2020. Westwood has always felt like a home away from home for her, and she enjoys being able to work with such a loving and welcoming community.
Charles is from Wilmington, North Carolina where he graduated from New Hanover High. He holds degrees from Mars Hill College, Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He and his wife Gloria served as Missionaries to Brazil for 14 years. Rev. Allard served as Pastor at Westwood from 1995 to 2008. He led the church through two building campaigns and shepherded Westwood through its greatest season of growth. He has had a lasting impact on the life and ministry of the church. In addition to Westwood, Rev. Allard has held North Carolina Pastorates in Bailey, Salisbury, Boone, and Morehead City, and interim positions in Wallace and Clinton. He and Gloria have 3 grown children and 4 Grandchildren. The Allards live in Apex, NC.
Jennifer Watkins joined the Westwood Baptist staff as Secretary/Receptionist in April 2015. She lives in Willow Spring with her two children Johnathan and Jenna.
Jennifer is also a preacher’s daughter. Her deceased father, Rev. John Shelton, died in 1995 while serving as pastor of Inwood Baptist in Raleigh. Also, Jennifer’s 10-year-old daughter is a cancer survivor of 8 years. She was diagnosed at age 1 with Neuroblastoma, but praise God Jenna has been cancer free for 8 years. Jennifer attends The Summit Church of Garner. Jennifer enjoys staying active with working out and running and loves being outdoors and especially at the beach.
David Michael Bilowus began classical piano studies at the age of four and jazz/improvisational studies at the age of ten. He began providing special music at churches when in elementary school, and by age 15, he served as the primary organist at his local church in Buffalo, New York.
David has presented numerous solo and chamber music recitals in western New York, and in international and national locations, including solo performances with the Buffalo Pops Orchestra. David completed a Master’s degree in piano performance and Bachelors of Fine Arts degrees in voice and piano at the State University of New York in Buffalo, where he also taught piano. David and his wife, Sarah, love promoting music education and founded Keyboard for Kids & More!, to spread their passion for music to children and adults in the community. David also continues to offer inspirational concerts and especially feels the calling from God to compose new music based on the Psalms and other biblical texts. He also greatly enjoys performing duo piano arrangements with his son, Andrew, an accomplished pianist. David has been serving as a piano accompanist at Westwood since August of 2018, where he loves working with the choir and soloists to prepare music for God’s glory.
Marilyn has a passion and love of gospel and church music and serving the Lord playing the organ. She felt the call of serving the Lord in this capacity at a young age and has been serving for many years.
She has served in various churches in the music ministry and has been blessed by the opportunities to serve and play the organ. She and her husband Chris have been a part of Westwood Baptist Church since January 2019.
When Anna became Hostess for Westwood Baptist Church it was a calling for her. She joined the staff in 2006 and has found it a joy to serve this church family.
Anna has been married to John since 1993. Together they share 7 children, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren . Anna has been a part of Westwood since 1991. She boldly proclaims; “it’s the best loving church ever”. When asked about her role at the church she shares, “It is the love of my heart to cook and see how God works it out. I love to see people eat and enjoy eating.”
