What Kind of Baptist Are We?

This is usually the first question we get as a Baptist church in America. We get it, there are a variety of Baptist denominations and organizations out there that we could be affiliated with! As a true Baptist church, we are autonomous, but choose to partner with organizations and denominations that closest align with our beliefs and vision as a local church. Those we partner with are:

Raleigh Baptist Association
(RBA)

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of NC

GriefShare

GriefShare is God’s ministry to people who have lost a loved one because of death.

Westwood’s GriefShare program has been in existence since 1996.

GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences, the loss of a loved one because of death. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone.

GriefShare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable GriefShare resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life.
GriefShare is a 13-week program that is Bible-based and Christ-centered.

Based on the size and ages of the group, as well as the individual situations, groups may be divided to meet each person’s needs; i.e. teens, those who have lost spouses/significant others, those who have lost parents, etc.

Also, a Surviving the Holidays event is held each year in early December on a Saturday morning. Event participants review a video and have group discussion with their respective grieving peers, a time of seeing God work in people’s lives who are/have been through grief with their Miracle Moments, and a candlelight memorial service for their loved one.

For more information, or to learn how to register for the next Grief Share class at Westwood, email griefshare@westwoodcary.org.

Community Bible Study

Come see what happens in people’s lives when they discover God through the study of God's Word, the Bible. Our classes meet weekly during the school year. Each class member receives a course book with commentary and home study questions. Each week, you’ll participate in small group discussions and a large group teaching. From time to time, fellowship meals will provide special times of sharing and relationship building within the class.

The Community Bible Study meets on Wednesday from 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM.

Scouts

We host a Boy Scout troop, as well as a Cub Scout pack.  Both of these groups offer constructive events and activities to help children and youth learn and grow as people.
Boy Scout Troop 204
Boy Scout Troop 204 meets on Monday nights at 7:00 pm at Westwood Baptist Church. They are a member of the Cardinal District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. They are also members of the Netami Chapter of Lodge 104 of the Southern Region of the Order of the Arrow.

More info is available at troop204cary.org

The three aims of scouting are to build character, foster citizenship and to develop fitness. It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to serve others by helping to instill values in young people, and in other ways to prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values they strive to instill are found in the Boy Scout Oath and Law.

Well over one hundred and fifty scouts have earned the rank of Eagle since the troop was formed in 1974. They continue to live out the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives while being leaders in their profession, church and community. In addition, they continue to “give back to scouting more than they received.” They are proud of the example Eagle Scouts continue to set for those that follow them.
Cub Scout Troop 201
Cub Scout Pack 201 also calls Westwood home. They meet on Monday Nights 7-8pm. They are a part of the Cardinal District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

They accept both boys & girls in K-5th grades. You can check www.carypack201.com for schedule & additional info.

Cub Scouts are designed to provide hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.
Girl Scout Troop 792
Girl Scout Troop 792 meets on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 pm once a month. It is the newest addition to Westwood’s scouting family. It is a part of the North Carolina Coastal Pines Council. They describe Girl Scouts as a place where “you’ll always have something to look forward to! You’ll get together with your friends to play games and sing songs; go on field trips to museums and nature centers; and explore the outdoors. Earn badges as you learn to do all kinds of fun things—like paint pictures, camp out, make jewelry, go geocaching, create inventions, conduct science experiments, plant gardens, and oh, so much more…. you’ll find yourself counting the days until your troop meeting starts—and the fun continues!”
